  • Mikoyan MiG-29 Twin 64mm EDF PNP

The Russian Mikoyan MiG-29 is a fourth-generation, twin engined air-superiority fighter.

Developed in the 1970's by the Mikoyan design bureau, the legendary MiG-29 and the larger Sukhoi Su-27 were developed to counter American F-15 and F-16 fighter aircraft.

Arrows has used state-of-the-art engineering and testing expertise to develop the dual-64mm EDF MiG-29 confident that this MiG-29 surpasses the performance and features of any other MiG-29 on the market today.

Performance: Dual 2-bladed 64mm EDF's and dual-40A ESC's provide ample thrust. WIth exhilarating high-speed and vertical performance along with the turbine-like sound characteristics, this plane is at the cutting edge of RC aviation.

Scale features: Functional LED's, full flying horizontal stabilizer and full-metal shock-absorbing undercarriage provide functional realism while a detailed cockpit, panel lines, removable armaments, pilot figure and scale trim scheme allow the aircraft to look like the real thing up close.

Despite the complex structure of the Arrows MiG-29, the aircraft comes prebuilt from the factory. Experienced pilots will find that the assembly process is easy and straight-forward, taking as little as 15 minutes to complete.

For pilots that have mastered the Arrows Marlin and are looking for something in the scale department, the aggressive MiG-29 is not to be missed!

    Features

    • Ample thrust courtesy of dual out-runner 64mm 12-bladed fans, dual 40A ESCs and 6S power.
    • Highly realistic functional and scale features.
    • CNC machined-metal shock-absorbing undercarriage.
    • Electric retracts with over-current protection.

55 years of model airplanes and currently have 20 EDFs and have had every FreeWing, some multiple. I've now bought three of the 64mm MiG. The first I lost in a mid air, currently flying the second and have a third because I like this plane so much.
The plane is a perfect blend of just the right size, great flying, good power, good quality, great aircraft to model and good scheme. The only negatives are unpainted white foam and it comes out nose heavy if you balance it at the factory CG.
I have separated control surfaces and put in a 10ch receiver to program crow, up ailerons with down flaps, tailerons where the elevators act as ailerons too, and rudder air brakes where the rudders go in to act as air brakes.
Bottom line a great model at a good price.

    Awesome EDF

    Appearance

This is the third of these I have purchased and is sitting in the hobby room. The first was lost in an awesome midair. I had zero issues with that one. On mine I separated the channels to have ailerons, elevators, and rudders all on separate channels to enable crow (flaps down ailerons up), full span flap, tailerons (elevators act as ailerons too), and rudder airbrakes (requires separate steering too). Balanced per the manual is nose heavy for how I like to fly so I cut a little foam to move the battery back and added 3D printed tail nozzles. With this set up the nose spring change many make is not needed as much.

Quality issue- I had no issues on #1. On #2 one flap servo started to not work and after swapping out extensions and Y swapped the servo for one from #1. Now a couple dozen flights later that servo has become problematic.

Side note. The 64mm 6s fan and motor are great and I put one in an old Stinger64, wow!

This is the second time I have reviewed this plane. Not sure why the first one didn't post.

Have not flown yet due to winter weather. I have lots of jets. 75% of my planes and my flights are with jets and I love jets that push the limits on design, instead of the usual schemes that everyone sells the same. This design and these colors will turn heads, stand out, really rock my world. Right now I can't decide if I like this one more than my eflite twin 70mm SU30, but these two are surely my favs!!! Even the customer service is pretty dam good. My Mig 29 arrived with a cracked plate on the bottom of the fuse. I sent pics and next thing I know I have a new plastic plate in my mail box. Very impressive! The landing gear and the lights look so awesome. I'm so excited about flying this Mig. I can't wait to see these colors in the air. Landing gear, Lights and Flaps, OMG I'm stoked. I haven't even flown it yet and I want another one. My wife tells me I have too many planes now. If she only knew, lol. I'll post another review after I fly this Beautiful Mig 29, probably mid May, hopefully sooner. I had 1,200 flights last season, looking forward to breaking that record, lol. Fly Fun & Fly Safe. Flew this lovely lady on her maiden and then two more consecutive flights so far. Took a lot of trim on the first flight due to a trailing Edge curvature issue. Apparently my right wing trailing Edge was warped so when I lined my surfaces up in my initial setup, it created a nasty right roll. After correcting the issue with adjusting the surfaces manually the second flight she was dialed in with just a few clicks trim. Flew Awesome on a 3300 HRB pack for about 3 minutes and 30 seconds with 27% remaining. Keep in mind fellows I'm a scale flyer and I'm not out there trying to break top speed runs. Landed really nice but was nose bouncy due to not doing the Gear mod. Other than that, seriously impressed with his arrows bird. Flies very similar to my F-15 arrows. Two thumbs up! Only issues were the warped wing from the factory and the soft front gear spring. Great Buy!

Another great jet for my fleet. Hats off to Dan and the gang at Hobbyzone. I thought I was missing the small bags of screws and the stab pushrods. I looked everywhere with no luck. Dan sent someone into the warehouse to opened a kit and then sent me a photo that said look here. Sure enough the bag was in a compartment in the upper left hand corner. It flies as good or better than the F-15 and hits my sweet spot for cost, size and performance.

I ordered the plane on a Monday and received it on Wednesday with free shipping. The plane arrived undamaged and no missing hardware. Online videos accurately describe the quality and flying characteristics.

There is an addendum included in the instructions that has a revised CG range and elevator trim setting. The trim setting is for 5mm deflection but it caused a nose down attitude. I adjusted to 3mm and that fixed it.
The manual suggests a 3300mah 6S lipo to achieve proper CG. Not having one, I used an Admiral 6S 4000mah 40C lipo and the CG measured at 100mm, well within the addendum's 95 to 110mm range.
To keep the receiver antennas as far as possible from wires and battery, I bored a 3/32" tunnel through each side of the fuselage and into the strakes. The only negative was a DOA BEC. I contacted Hobbyzone and they replaced it immediately.
I'm flying on high rates with stabilization built into the receiver. Handles great. Looks and sounds great too!

Free wing has another MiG  29 that cost a fortune but is a super high-quality airplane. The problem is, I like my planes to be scale compared to each other and mig 29 is a small plane in real life. I have a big F 22 and a big F15 and I needed a small mig 29 and a small F 16. A twin 64 on this size is very powerful and I am able to do all of the maneuvers like hi Alpha that I wish to.  The scheme shows well against the sky and also looks good on the ground. Very happy with my purchase.

Model may not be good for grass runways. Our field is fairly smooth, but the nose gear strut spring isn't strong enough to keep the nose out of the ground when model encounters a small bump. "Airspeed Head" broke and nose cone damaged on mine.

Right out of the Box,this is a great handling, fun jet. Its very stable,Im running the cg 15 mm behind the recommended rearmost spot and its still rock solid.I bought a stabilizer for it and Ive decided not to put in.It sits slightly nose down,so I put softer springs in the main landing gear to raise the nose,If you don't want to do this just be sure to use half flaps for take off or you takeoff run will be very long.It flys great and the paint scheme is very visible. Its not the fastest jet out,but fast enough and verticals as far as you want to.and quite maneuverable.Just a good all a rounder.

Can't say enough about Dan and the team at HobbyZone. Had an issue with a broken belly pan (common issue, apparently) and a DOA stabilator servo out of the box. Called Dan, had a nice talk, and he sent out the replacement parts same day. Was bummed I couldn't it maiden it sooner, but it was worth the wait. Happy with the airplane, happier with the customer service I received. Lots of options to feed the RC addiction, but HobbyZone has become my dealer of choice.

Out of the box, the main landing gear does not work. The main landing gear works fine when the plane is upside down on the bench. When placed right side up, the right gear does not descend. When the gear switch is operated and the plane is in the upright position, the right gear comes down if firmly pulled by hand. Have done some sanding to see if it is binding on the wheel well. No such luck. Very disappointing to have a faulty plane straight out of the box. Spent several hours trying to figure out the problem.
