    EVOLUTION OF AN ICON

Scaled down from the legendary TimberĀ® 1.5m, the E-fliteĀ® UMXā„¢ Timber was the iconic ultra micro model best-equipped for exciting STOL (Short Take Off and Landing) adventures and beyondā€¦until now. The UMX Turbo Timber updates the original design with a modern turboprop-styled nose and 3-blade propeller, plus a higher-power 3400Kv brushless motor. When using the same 2S 280mAh batteries, this Turbo version provides even better STOL performance with shorter takeoffs and faster climbs. You'll also enjoy extreme aerobatic capabilities and have the power to hover, then climb out vertically. In the hands of experienced pilots, the UMX Turbo Timber can be flown in more places ā€” even off of water with the optional floats (sold separately) ā€” and in smaller spaces. Plus its high-wing configuration and exclusive optional-use SAFEĀ® Select technology provide plenty of stability to make the UMX Turbo Timber a great choice if you've mastered flying at least one model before. This makes it a model that pretty much every pilot, from low-time to long-time experienced alike, should own because everyone will enjoy flying it!

    Features

    • Incredible Short Take Off and Landing (STOL) plus sport and aerobatic flight capabilities
    • Uniquely capable and versatile so it can be flown in more places and smaller spaces
    • More powerful 3400Kv motor for the power to hover and climb out vertically
    • Updated turboprop-styled nose, 3-blade prop and trim scheme
    • Updated landing gear design to secure fairings to fuselage
    • Functional oversized flaps for shorter takeoffs and landings
    • Industry-leading Spektrumā„¢ 2.4GHz DSMXĀ® technology
    • Easy to fly with optional-use SAFEĀ® Select flight envelope protection
    • Unmatched stability and locked-in feel of AS3XĀ® technology for smoother flight performance
    • Optional-use leading edge slats for improved STOL and slow flight performance
    • Functional and factory-installed LED landing, navigation and strobe lights
    • Optional floats for flying from water (sold separately)
    • Fully factory-assembled and ready to fly right out of the box

    MORE POWER AND VERSATILITY

At the heart of the iconic UMXā„¢ TimberĀ® model's evolution into the UMX Turbo TimberĀ® is the addition of a 3400Kv motor and a 3-blade prop. Always known as and still an easy-to-fly, smooth handling, STOL (Short Take Off and Landing) capable airplane, it now has the thrust ā€” with the same 2S 280mAh batteries ā€” to hover and climb out vertically. It can also perform inverted flight, knife edge, snaps, spins and other advanced aerobatic maneuvers with ease. Functional oversized flaps, plus optional-use leading edge slats, offer improved STOL and slow flight performance. Equipped with oversized tundra-style wheels like its predecessor, the UMX Turbo Timber can take off and land on grass and other rough surfaces better than ever before due to the updated landing gear design that secures the fairings to the fuselage. Experienced pilots can fly it indoors in spaces as small as a single basketball court, and almost anyone who's mastered flying at least one other airplane before can fly it successfully outdoors in large yards, small parks, sports fields, at RC flying fields and many other places. Install the optional floats (sold separately) and you can add large pools, small ponds, and lakes to your flying site options. Included LED landing, navigation and simulated strobe lights add to the fun and make it possible to fly from earlier to even later in the day. Best of all the UMX Turbo Timber arrives 100% factory-assembled ā€” and is ready to fly as soon as you bind the installed Spektrumā„¢ receiver to your compatible transmitter!

UMX Turbo Timber, Clearly my most fun Plane

    Appearance

I love this plane so much I have four of them. One in the box because one day they will quit making it. One just for everyday fun flying, one on floats and one for very high wind flying which I expect to crash one day but it just never seems to happen. Easy to carry in my car and pull out whenever I get in the mood. The 280 battery they recommend is not sufficient. A 430 mah 2 cell is the answer especially in the winter cold. If this plane were one meter it would be perfect for me but still a lot of fun. I have purchased from my local hobby shop, Horizon Hobby and Hobby Zone and there is no doubt Hobby Zone and especially "Dan" has been the most helpful. I always recommend this plane as a second plane after the Sports Cub S and have seen success every time. I usually take 4 planes to fly every few day but they always include the UMX Turbo Timber. For me it is more fun than any of the other 12 planes I fly.

This is my second.  My first was the UMX Timber.  Both are a blast to fly.  Both have flaps, which some would say is frivolous, but I think flaps add another dimension.  Flaps do allow for slower air speeds and steepen the approach angle, just like full scale!

A lot of fun in a small package!

    Fun plane problems with rudder

It’s a fun plane to fly, but I had issues with the rudder almost immediately.  Sometimes the rudder works and sometimes it doesn’t. It’s held on by tape with might be the problem. I called horizon and filed a claim, never heard back. All in all you don’t really need rudder to fly this plane but it would be nice to have working on a consistent level.  For future purchases I’m sticking with larger, better built planes.

This is my first RC plane, therefore strictly IMHO.

    Good:
BNF, can be used out of box; light - means cute for bypassers/bystanders, can use it in a closest park; has flaps, can fly very slow; has box for transportation/storage; SAFE flight mode is very friendly/forgiveable for newbies.
Bad: made from the same material as plastic coffee caps - EPS, the worst in durability of all RC models. Batteries connectors are different from commonly used, require either dedicated charger or an adapter for my 2 channel ToolkitRC M6D charger. Servos are "linear", also not commonly used - means I cannot reuse them when I eventually break the plane.
Am I happy with this plane? YES! Would I buy it again? No.

I love all the features but the first time it nosedived into the ground from about 10 feet up it completely crushed the nose and broke the prop adapter. I have reinforced the nose with plastic from a bottle, time will tell how long it lasts.

Received my order within days from HobbyZone! Fantastic work on the shipping. I use a Radiomaster Zorro multiprotocol radio and setup for the UMX Turbo Timber was way simpler than I expected! Flaps work, S.A.F.E and AS3X all work perfectly with the Radiomaster Zorro! I'm a bit concerned about the fact that this model has EPS foam. It looks really fragile. But the Nav lights, flaps, design and appearance are really awesome! I'm going to use a 2S 500mah 25C battery. With the battery as far back as it can go, I got a perfect CG. Flying weight will be about 138g instead of the reported 123g with the 2S 280mah battery. Looking forward to longer flight times. I'm waiting for the weather to clear before I maiden it. Once I maiden it, I'll update my review. I have high expectations! If anyone needs help setting up a multiprotocol radio for this model, just let me know. Thanks and Happy Flying!

This is the 2nd UMX Turbo Timber I've purchased this past year......after beating up my first one and repairing it multiple times, I've since converted it to fly strictly on floats on the pond behind my home, and have purchased this newest one as a backup, as it was evident this particular model was about to be discontinued. I do wish now I had waited a bit and ordered the new UMX Turbo Timber Evo, that also runs on 3s, but regardless I'm still very happy with this purchase.

Weather only Permits a 3........for now

The day I picked up this little plane, it immediately began to snow. I made it home and opened up my new gift. I found the plane safe and secure in it's form fitting box.
I was able to easily get the plane set up and ready to fly. The AS3X/Safe, ailerons, flaps, elevator and rudder all appear to work fine. The navigation lights are bright and visible.
The only "nit pick" is the right flap being 2mm lower than level. I may need some advice on how to fix, as there's no visible adjustment.
The STAR rating a 3 for now, as the weather isn't permitting a maiden flight. I'll update this review later.
The Hobby Zone crew in Eden Prairie Mn. are knowledgeable and friendly. A+

The UMX Turbo Timber is more fun than making fun of a liberal. It is perfect for flying from our 4 acre place, takeoffs and landings with flaps from a dirt field is no problem. This is better than long neck beers and sliced white bread. I hope to have the 1.5 m Turbo Timber soon.
